Shocking

You get a shiver in the dark.... there goes the lyrics of the sultans of swing by dire straits.its any day one of my favorites. The lyrics are great and so is the music.Yesterday i was watching a debate on Times Now on some minority program launched by the Government. The panelist were Tarun Vijay and some member of AIMPLB.I was left shocked and aghast at the kind of statements made by Tarun Vijay. The diatribe launched by him again was was so virulent and vitriolic that even this strong words seem quite mild.I had never seen an educated person having such a parochial and venomous mindset. It was then i realised the apprehensions expressed by the intellectuals when they talk of the rise and growth of organisations like RSS.May God save this country from Tarun Vijay and his ilk...

Of tits and bits

Nowadays m reeling under too much workload. It is getting on my nerves and at times also affects my behaviour. That is what you call a stressful life in the corporate world.I guess this is the actual corporate world, where you are supposed to slog day in and day out.Moving over to other issues the Gujarat elections are over and the results are yet to come out,but then anyways that hardly matters as almost everyone knows what the outcome would be.It would be an outright victory for Modi.He had a total domination in the elections. The election was all about Modi and only Modi.Sonia Gandhi gave him a wonderful opportunity to shift the attention from development to communal issues and he gleefully pouched the opportunity. On other fronts USA has finally agreed to some kind of cut down on some kind of emissions. The convention which was held in Bali saw initially a stubborn not agreeing on cutting down emissions, but instead putting pressure on developing like India to cut down emissions. It is worth noting that the Kyoto protocol did not require developing countries to cut down on emissions.USA is the only developed country which has not ratified the Kyoto protocol. The present convention required the developed countries to cut down green house emission by at least 25-40 %.Tokyo and Washington were totally against this but then the tough stance taken by EU and India forced them to agree to it.India on its part said that if it is forced to cut down emissions then this would severely hamper its development, and in the words of the foreign secretary" when we speak of shared responsibility it must include the international community's shared responsibility to ensure the right to development of the developing countries. Development is the best form of adaptation to climate change".

Delhi

This weekend i went to Gurgaon and Delhi.Gurgaon with all its glittering skyscrapers looks very beautiful, but that is all from the highway.Once you go inside the city it is pathetic.Delhi also is a very interesting city. With a blend of the medieval and the modern one would be surprised at the stark contrast in the architecture of the country. But what actually shocked me and took me out from my comfort zone was the plight of people in certain parts of the city.I went to saket and then to the walled city. The sudden change which i noticed was enlightening and has certainly broadened my outlook regarding life and the society in which we live. From there on i went to the monastery, which is a market where the majority of the shopkeepers are Tibetan refugees. It was a different world altogether.I was just spellbound as soon as i entered out there. The place was brimming with people and i had to jostle to walk.I had to haggle with the shopkeeper in order to get a good price for what i was buying. All in all it was a very enriching experience and has been etched in my memory and would stay there for ages to come.

The removal of the facade

So, at last yesterday the Gujarat government officially accepted that it had given the go ahead for the extra constitutional killing of Indian citizens.Another first in the history of India. But all this points to the fact that India is becoming a banana republic where modern day Nero's rule the roost and fascism is camouflaged in the disguise of nationalism.I wonder when would we Indians rise up above our parochial mindset and defeat the nefarious designs of such fascists.

Pluralism

I was just watching "we the people" on NDTV and the topic was about the purdah system.A very controversial topic on which the we can find extreme views. It was certainly interesting to hear the various opinions. As far as i am concerned i am not a proponent of the purdah system as i believe that in the current scenario the purdah system 'seems' to retrograde and regressive.Again i am not too sure about it.But that certainly does not mean that if someone who wants to wear it should not be allowed to wear it.It should be left to the individual of what she wants to wear and what she doesn't.At least it doesn't affect the sensibilities of any person unlike the way a bikini clad lady can cause furore. Moreover we live in a pluralistic society where extremism should give space to liberalism and the individual rights of every individual, every community should be given the due respect which they deserve. That is what makes a diverse country like India so beautiful to reside in, where diverse opinions are taken into consideration and pluralism is celebrated in every sense.

Review

At last i have finished of reading "The last day of the jackal" by frederick forsyth.I had been trying to get hold of it since many years,as my father had sung paeans of it.It was an interesting read. The story was riveting and it was difficult to put it down expect somewhere in the middle pages when the author was describing about the ammunition to be used. But then it had all the ingredients of a potboiler. One has to give the author credit for his insight on the psychology of people of various countries, their grudges and preferences. It is not fair enough on my part to compare this book with "The Odessa file" which was his first book that i read.Anyways i would recommend this book to all those people who love reading thrillers. It would be an absolute treat to their pallet.

A nite to remember

By all accounts the annual party of samsung was a memorable one.It was one of those nights which would remain etched in my heart n soul for ages to come due to the sheer enjoyment i derived out of it.Even though m a pathetic dancer i was in d dance floor for hours. There were incidents which should not have taken place, some insidious rumours doing the rounds, but still that could not take the sheen away from the party.Even with changing times the attitudes of people doesn't seem to change. They cannot think beyond their parochial mindset.I still wonder when would that metamorphosis come about.More of that later on.Yesterday Jaffer played an awesome knock. What was unfortunate a deserving century that Sachin missed.I don't know when would he break this jinx.On the literary side i was trying to understand the philosophy behind existentialism. One has to go to the depths of metaphysics to comprehend it.it certainly opposes the concept of rationality. It also opposes Descartes philosophy of cogito ergo sum("I am what i am").it believes that having feelings like fear and anxiety is pretty natural.those feeling are not illusions but is the absolute reality.Would try to read more then would make any further comments.
what you do ,when you get lonely.....right now i am listening to layla by eric clapton.the music is awesome.anyways nowadays i have started wondering the kind of discrimination followed by BCCI against ex indian cricketers.why isn't any ex indian cricketer thought of being worthy enough to be considered for the post of the indian cricket coach.Lalchand Rajput had done a good job while being at the helm of affairs.I personally believe that BCCI should have given him a chance especially after the greg chapell fiasco.Anyways it would be interesting to see how gary kirsten performs under pressure.Anyways he is already in the news for all the wrong reasons.

long time

It has been long time since i posted my last blog.So this is just for the sake of blogging.CAT didnt go well again.I guess i am a choker.I always tend to crumble under pressure. The week after CAT i had my convocation.I could not make it because of the IIFT entrance test.I really felt pretty sad about it.But thats life .One has to take all of these things in his stride.I am satisfied with my work at office.Atleast i am learning something.Nowadays Tasleema nasreen is making the headlines for all the wrong reasons. I have not read her book so i guess i dont have any right to condemn her book. But it seems from reviews and the book cover that her book is more of a pornography than a biography. She has every right to express her views, but then whatever she says India is not her country so it would certainly be wise on her part to say things judiciously. It is understandable that she want to stir a controversy to rake moolah but then there are better ways. Tt the same time the government should not budge under the pressure of fundamentalists, and should take strict action against them.

well it seems to me that it has been ages since i posted my last blog, but the reason behind this delay is not due to any my occupation with anything important but simply because of my being a bit lousy and dilly delaying the inevitable.well a lot of water has flown under the bridge since i posted my last blog, but still i wud still like opine on certain issues.Atlast i have joined the corporate world.the first few days i was a bit apprehensive, anxious and excited but now everything has died down.Life is back to normal.I went to sariska.it was a company sponsored trip.Really an exciting trip that has been etched in my memory for eternity. In the recent past there have been lots os issues which are worth commenting.Starting from the controversial knighthood granted to salman rushdie to the recent controversy surrounding the ram sethusamudram.well as far as the latest controversy is concerned i think it was almost an unneccesary provocation on the part of the government, which actually was not intentional but certainly was a callous one which would have widespread repercussions. In the meantime India has won the T-20 cup which is a gr8 achievment. It has brought cricket back to to focus and well the cricketers themselves have raked lot of moolah.

a lunatic fringe i hope

i have left the college, those halcyon days back at the college make me feel nostalgic.its not just me,but the same sentiments are expressed by almost all my friends.cant help it.anyawys i came in a taxi from jaipur to gurgaon.there were three of us,myself ,vivek and alok.the luggage was so huge dat we hardly managed to come.moreover unfortunately,we got late, stuck in the traffic jams of Delhi.phew!!!just made in time, else my bro would have missed his office.i thought that he wud be furious, but i could not see a trace of i.cool and innocent guy which he is.anyways i just read an article by b.raman in rediff.like always he was spewing venom against Muslims.I fail to understand how do well educated people become fanatics.what was more surprising was the kind of support he got.The vitriolic campaign against minorities would make any sensible Indian who believes in the ethos of Hinduism and indianess bow his head in shame.I just hope that these are exceptions , a fringe which just keeps on yelling else we are heading towards anarchy like Pakistan.

Time to leave

the college is coming to an end....thet painful realisation has dawned on me. few of my friends have left and others are leaving..including the savior who is leaving today..will miss all of them....but now coming to the point....are fake encounters justified in india??well the fact remains that india is the largest democracy in the world...democracy and not a banana republic!! so how can we justify unlawful killings just because of the whims of people who think that they are larger than life. and then it is the so called middle class which keeps on justifying all these nonsense. it is this middle class which gives them a free hand and makes above the law..and that is where the problem starts.when people behave as if they are god and the life of a person is in their hands..what do you expect would happen to the society?????its high time we think something about those people who have lost their near and dear one's b'coz of some crazy headed fellow...

the first one

first and foremost i am proud to be an indian but i am quite asd to see the present state of india where the psyche of narrow mindedness has penetrated into every walk of our life and has thus fragmented the basic foundation of our country.earlier it was the ignorant mass which used to get divided on the basis of religion now it is the so called "intelligensia" which is infact being swayed by all these.discrimination on the basis of caste and colour has been a long phenomenon and it doesnt seem to come to an end.someone has to take up the cudgels like swami vivekananda did in order to eliminate this problem from its roots otherwise the dream which our founding fathers saw of india as a secular country would stand doomed and history would remember us as a failed state
